Eighteen Year 9 students have taken part in The Brilliant Club Scholars’ Programme.  The students were challenged to work two levels above their current key stage, on a supra-curricular topic based on their PHD tutor’s research area.  This year their topic was “US-China Relations Today: Can we Escape the Thucidydes Trap?”  The majority of the eight week programme was undertaken during lockdown, via online tutorials.  Students had to show considerable resilience, and produced some outstanding work in extremely difficult circumstances.

Students commented:

I believe we’re all honoured to have been able to be a part of this fulfilling experience.

Even though I found it challenging, it improved my skills and I enjoyed the course.  Our teacher was excellent at explaining the subject and was very kind and inspiring.

I enjoyed having this opportunity. I didn’t realise there was so much that goes into countries’ conflicts.

I found it really enjoyable and I loved the challenge!
