As part of our celebrations for World Book Day 2023, we were really lucky to have award-winning children’s author Tom Palmer visit college.

KS3 students were challenged to write a short story based on Tom’s novel Ghost Stadium, emulating his unique style in their own work. Competition entrants were rewarded with the opportunity to meet Tom, both in workshops and over a lunch-time event.

Tom’s workshops were interactive in nature, and our students were able to gain insight into his writing process and how he draws inspiration from historical events, as well as some things a little closer to home (one story was inspired by his pet dog). Our students were particularly excited to see his planning work, and to understand how this planning becomes the basis of excellent story telling.

Students came away excited and inspired.

Thanks Tom!
