We were delighted to take 42 Year 11 students to three inspirational careers events this term.

Firstly, Midland Railway, Ripley hosted a QTS ‘Futures of Rail’ visit for prospective mechanical engineers. There were opportunities to try out state-of-the-art drone and laser technology, take the driver’s seat in a variety of rail maintenance technology, and meet representatives from a wide range of linked careers.

Secondly, we entered a team of Year 11 students for the National Manufacturing Day competition at Barrow Hill Roundhouse, following a fantastic morning of research at Penny Engineering, Clowne. Students collaborated to learn and plan a presentation on marketing the business, culminating in an award-winning presentation, bringing first prize back to Springwell. Well done team!

Most recently, a group of students interested in the construction industry got the chance to spend the day at the Chesterfield Construction Hub, Mastin Moor: a fabulous opportunity to see what a future in the industry might look like. Students tried their hands at bricklaying, carpentry and plumbing, and came away from the event well-equipped to make decisions about their next steps.

Well done to all who took part across the three days.
