At The Two Counties Trust (TTCT), safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. Each term, we deliver a Trust-wide safeguarding campaign designed to support our students, build awareness and empower them to stay safe and feel supported.
This term’s focus is Feeling Lonely? This theme encourages students to understand loneliness, recognise how it can affect themselves or others, and know how to seek support when they need it. Loneliness is a natural human experience and can affect anyone at different points in their life. It may be linked to changes in friendships, transitions in school, pressures of daily life, or feeling unsure where we fit in.
This campaign aims to normalise these feelings, reduce stigma, and remind students that they are never alone in how they feel. By talking openly about loneliness, we help to build empathy, kindness, and a stronger sense of community across our Trust.
A key part of this campaign is helping students recognise that loneliness is not just about being physically alone. It can take different forms, including:
- Emotional loneliness – feeling a lack of close or meaningful connections.
- Social loneliness – feeling disconnected from friends or groups.
- Hidden loneliness – feeling alone even when surrounded by others or appearing confident.
Understanding these different experiences helps students challenge assumptions and recognise that loneliness can affect anyone.
Alongside raising awareness, the campaign highlights small, practical ways students can feel more connected. The focus is on manageable steps, keeping in touch with others, taking part in activities they enjoy, or speaking to someone they trust.
The campaign also reminds students of their role in supporting others. A safe and inclusive environment depends on kindness, awareness and a willingness to look out for one another. Throughout the term in assemblies, tutor time and PSHE lessons, students will explore these themes in more depth, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to understand loneliness, support others and seek help when needed.
