What a fabulous day we had on Wednesday when author and film maker Matt Dickinson was our ‘Writer In Residence’ to help us celebrate World Book Week. Matt’s talks and workshops were brilliant, and he kept Year 7, 8 and 9 students enthralled with stories of his adventures and explorations of Mount Everest and Antarctica, both of which have inspired his fiction books.

During his workshops, Matt’s photography, films, anecdotes, and information kept everyone hooked and the day just flew by. As well as spending time with the English faculty, Matt also ran two workshops for the Geography department and helped them to judge their recent ‘Your Shot’ photography competition.

The feedback from our students about the day was excellent. They said what an interesting person Matt was and how they had learnt things from him about Everest, its base camp, Nepal, the geography of the area and different career opportunities linked to geography, writing and film making.

Matt was equally impressed with our students, commenting on the intelligent questions they had asked, the respectful way they had listened and their general good behaviour.

Thank you to everyone involved in the day (in whatever capacity) and we look forward to welcoming Matt back another time to hear more of his exciting adventures.
