Welcome to Springwell Community College

Welcome to Springwell Community College, where our commitment to excellence is guided by our core values of Ambition, Commitment, and Kindness. These values shape every part of our community. We inspire to encourage students to pursue their ambitions, give their all, and treat one another, as well as our college, community, and environment, with genuine care.

At Springwell, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive, nurturing environment where every student is empowered to achieve their full potential. Our well-planned, knowledge-rich curriculum focuses on building cultural capital and literacy and is delivered by dedicated and experienced teachers, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to excel.

Beyond the classroom, we believe in fostering well-rounded individuals. We offer a diverse range of extracurricular activities, educational trips, tailored careers guidance, and an engaging enrichment programme. Every student is supported by our skilled pastoral and inclusion team, ensuring they feel safe, confident, and fully supported throughout their time with us.

We understand that the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 can be both exciting and daunting. To support this important step, we’ve designed a comprehensive and supportive Transition Programme to help every child settle into secondary school life with ease and confidence.

Please take a moment to explore the information below to find out more about our Year 6 Transition Programme and what it means to be part of the Springwell Community College family. If you’d like to see the college for yourself, please book a tour by emailing enquiries@springwell.ttct.co.uk – we’d be delighted to welcome you.

What equipment will my child need?

In order to be ready to learn, students must bring a bag to college big enough to fit the following items in:

  • 100% portfolio (provided by the college)
  • Clear plastic pencil case
  • 2 black pens
  • 1 purple pen
  • 2 pencils
  • A ruler
  • An eraser
  • Reading book
  • Springwell ID card (provided by the college)

Each day, students need to bring the correct book, and, if appropriate their PE kit, for the day ahead.

What are the college’s opening hours?

College gates open at 08:10 each morning, and we run a breakfast club within college available for all students.

Lessons finish at 15:05 Monday – Thursday and 14:40 on Friday.

Can my child bring their mobile phone to college?

Mobile phones are not permitted to be used on site at any time during the college day. This is to enable students to socialise with their peers and maximise learning time within lesson. As a college, we introduced this to minimise safeguarding risks such as the taking and sharing of photographs and video without permission, sharing personal information, the inappropriate use of social media, accessing inappropriate materials and cyber bullying.

If a family member needs to make urgent contact during the day, then the college reception should be contacted and messages will be taken to students. If return calls are required, then students may go to Student Services to call home.

If families feel that a student needs a mobile phone when travelling to and from Springwell, the phone must remain switched off and out of sight throughout the college day. Any mobile phone which is seen, heard or believed to have been used during the day will be confiscated. If this is the first time their mobile phone has been confiscated, the student can collect their phone at the end of the day. Repeated failure to meet expectations around mobile phones will require a responsible adult to collect the phone. A suitable correction will also be issued. Smart watches are not permitted.

Tutor Group

When will we be told our child’s tutor group?

Students and parents will be informed of the child’s tutor group and invited to an evening to meet their tutor via letter. This will be sent out towards the end of June 2026.

How will my child be allocated a tutor group?

Students are allocated tutor groups to ensure they are equal in size as well as to ensure a mixture of genders, ethnicities and abilities to represent our intake and values. Students are also mixed up to ensure primary school intake is spread out so that students have the opportunity to meet new friends from different schools. We do speak to primary schools to ensure any unhealthy combinations are avoided.

What is the role of a tutor?

Tutor time is an invaluable part of the day for all students, accounting for 30 minutes of the school day. As a result, the role of the form tutor is central to not only caring for the students, but also monitoring their progress both academically and socially.

Tutors are active in looking after the interests of the whole child and support students by:

  • Promoting positive relationships
  • Encouraging high standards
  • Monitoring progress and wellbeing
  • Delivering a high-quality tutor programme and PSHE lessons

Dining

How much money will my child need for lunch?

The standard meal deal price and the free school meal allowance is £3.55. More information about the food options are available here.

How do I top up the money on my child’s account?

Food and drink at Springwell is purchased using ParentPay. You will receive a letter in September to link up to ParentPay. Cash payments are no longer accepted by our catering partners.

Support

How do you support worry about starting secondary school?

Being nervous about starting secondary school is normal; after all it’s the first big change many students will have experienced. Please reassure your child that this move is an exciting, positive, new chapter in their lives and that we are all looking forward to welcoming them to Springwell. However, if you are concerned about your child’s anxiety, please contact college and we will do all we can to help.

Who can my child speak to if they are worried?

If your child has any worries or concerns, they should speak to either the Head of Year 7 or their Tutor, who they will have contact with each day.

Who do I contact about my child’s medical information?

We would ask that any relevant medical information about your child is passed to us directly by speaking in the first instance to the office.
