GCSE Results Day, Thursday 25 August 2022

Students and staff at Springwell Community College are celebrating success in their GCSE examinations following the publication of the results this morning.    This year’s cohort were particularly affected by the disruption caused by the pandemic, missing face to face teaching during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021.  Despite this, a greater proportion of students achieved the higher grades (4-9) when compared with the last set of pre-pandemic examination results in 2019.

Ian Wingfield, Headteacher said: “Congratulations to all of our students receiving their results today. I would like to thank our families for their support and recognise the hard work and commitment of all of our students, especially after such a difficult and disruptive few years.  I would also like to recognise our teachers and support staff who have worked tirelessly to ensure that students are able to progress onto further education or apprenticeships.  They join me in wishing all of our leavers the very best for their next steps and we look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future.”

A number of students were celebrating exceptional individual results this morning.

  • Charlotte Thompson achieved eight Grade 9s and one Grade 8. Grade 9s are awarded to the top 2% of students nationally, so gaining eight qualifications at this grade is an incredible achievement!
  • Joining Charlotte in achieving Grade 9s were Charlotte Robinson (English Language) and George Connellan (maths).
  • Holly Clarkson achieved six qualifications at Grades 7 or above, including five at Grade 8.
  • Jack Wright achieved five qualifications at Grades 7 or above, including two at Grade 8.
  • Four students achieved the top grade, Distinction * in their vocational courses. They were: Kylah Jones, Indigo Millward and Jessica Owens in Hospitality and Catering and Aiden Siddall in Health and Social Care.
