After three years of no trips (or speaking exams) we finally got to go on our annual Castleton residential!

When we arrived at Castleton Youth Hostel, in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside, we settled into our rooms and unpacked a huge amount of snacks!

Following this, we met in the meeting room where we started our intense Spanish revision. We acted out many role-plays and photo-cards, as well as practising our general conversation either in pairs or with a member of staff.  On the first night we worked from 4.00 – 8.30pm (with a few breaks in between to either go and stroke the goats and sheep, or to have a kick around, play badminton or rounders).

On the second day we practised entire speaking tests under test conditions, which was really good practise before the real event on the following Monday. Again we worked solidly from 9.00 am – 2.00pm, with few breaks.

A great time was had by all, with some students commenting that it had really helped them to improve their confidence and that they wouldn’t have done as much practice, if they had been at home.  It was a great way to learn, away from all distractions whilst enjoying time with their friends.

We are already looking forward to the trip again next year and I would like to thank Mrs Stewart and Mr Ruiz, as I would not have been able to fulfil the trip without them.
